About the seriesThe Preshow gives the public an in-depth preview of the Museum’s new exhibitions as shared by those who brought them to life. About the speakersBorn in Montreal in 1980 Allison Katz received her BFA at Concordia University before pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts at Columbia University. Her work has been shown widely in Europe and North America including solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Ontario (Canada) Camden Art Centre (UK) Nottingham Contemporary (UK) MIT List Visual Arts Center (US) Kunstverein Freiburg (Germany) as well as recent group exhibitions at Tate Modern (UK) Hayward Gallery (UK) and the 59th Venice Biennale of 2022. Katz created a billboard for the High Line at 18th Street in New York this past summer. In 2024 she curated a major exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum which featured her own work and over one hundred works of contemporary art alongside fragments of Roman frescoes in collaboration with the archeological park of Pompeii brought together for the first time in the United States. Zhao-Ionescu Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts since 2020 Mary-Dailey Desmarais oversees a multidisciplinary team dedicated to enriching sharing and preserving a collection of close to 47000 art works and objects dating from antiquity to the present. Since joining the Museum in 2014 she has notably curated the exhibitions Seeing Loud: Basquiat and Music (2022) “How Long Does It Take for One Voice to Reach Another” (2021) Adam Pendleton: These Things We’ve Done Together (2021) and Once Upon a Time... The Western: A New Frontier in Art and Film (2017) whose accompanying catalogue won two awards. She has published widely in scholarly journals exhibition catalogues and art magazines on subjects ranging from Impressionism to global modern and contemporary art.
